For Computers and Internet

At this time, I do not have any affiliate links to my suggestions below.

Trend Micro Home

Premium is an all inclusive package. Premium Security Suite offers complete multi-device and identity protection across Mac, PC, mobile phones and tablets. Trend Micro’s most comprehensive security solution includes protection against viruses, hackers, and ransomware with 24x7 technical support.

Private Internet Access (PIA)

PIA is great as a stand alone VPN services when your LINUX OS can not support Trend Micro.
PIA VPN is 2026's top-rated VPN service – with ultra-fast speeds, worldwide streaming servers, and 100% open-source software.

Parental Controls & Content Filters

There are many options for separate software choices. However, all good antivirus software has built in settings.

As an adult with no children, I do not deal with this. However, ALL homes that have children around, this is a mut to protect them for any kind of predators on the internet.
There are numbers ways that children can be harmed on the Internet and should never be un-supervised!

Automatic System & Software Updates

Most computers today come with these options automatically installed.
However, not all updates are automatic. You need to make sure you keep your computers and its various programs up-to-date!

In Linux operating systems, I have been adding this to my clients computers. So there is nothing to purchase in store or online here.

Firewall Protection

Almost all devices such as modems, ROUTERS, computers etc, have them built in, but most of them are not set as acive by default. You need to make sure that are enabled and correctly set for your home or office devices. Therefor, you do not need to buy software for this. You can purchase additional equipment for businesses with more features.

Data Backup & Recovery

Winzip was a very popular software for this, but all computer operating systems include these features built is.

Secure Internet Browsing

Brave browser is my favorite here. As it also include the Tor browser access.
The Brave browser is a fast, private and secure web browser for PC, Mac and mobile. Download now to enjoy a faster ad-free browsing experience that saves data and battery life by blocking tracking software.

OPERA would be my second favorite. Faster, safer and smarter than default browsers. Fully-featured for privacy, security, and so much more. Get the faster, better Opera browser for free.

My least favorite is MS Edge as it is prone to spying and receiving bad stuff to harm your computer.

Secure Extensions/Addons for most Browsers

I have four favorites that have not let me down over the years. These have blocked many bad adds and links to help keep you and your computer safe.

They are Privacy Badger, Ublock Origin Or Lite, Disconnect and the ever popular Adblock Plus.

Ultimately, you need to make sure that what ever extensions you use, other than my favorites, that you do not pick something that is going to be bad for you and your computer.

I would be leery of any addons/extensions that are free combined with making life easier.

Secure Wi-Fi Networks

I do not have a favorite brand, but in today technology, I recommend anything that is AX3000 or better.
If you spend around $100, you will need someone to set it up for you. But if you spend about $600, it will come with security built in.

Word Processing

LibreOffice is my favorite as it is installed on the computer and does not save to any cloud service unless you choose to do that.

Free office suite – the evolution of OpenOffice. Compatible with Microsoft .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx. Updated regularly, community powered.

Email & Messaging Safety

Simply put, I prefer webmail! This is where you access your email through a website, not a program. I have not found an Email software that I am happy with.

As for Messaging I have two favorites. One is Signal and the other is Telegram. Unfortunately, they are meant for the smart phones.

NOTE: More to come!
